Mike's Twin Nvidia's

twin1

Recently Mike updated his computer with dual Video card's, here are some questions I was emailed about these pictures.

twin2

What are the model cards?
The cards are eVGA 6800GS’s featuring nVidia’s 6-series GPU. The stock Core Clock Frequency is 425MHz, stock Memory clock frequency is 500MHz with a Memory Data Rate of 1.0GHz. The cards are equipped with 256MB of GDDR3
What is the CPU/Bios your running?
The CPU is an Intel P4 630 Prescott Core 3.0GHz processor currently over-clocked to 3.6GHz (15x240). The Motherboard is an MSI P4N Diamond (nForce 4 SLI-Edition chipset). Bios is the most current version from MSI.
What is the heat sink?
The processor is cooled via the Thermalright TI-120 air-tube heat sink. Thermaltake 120mm fans (moving ~93CFM of air) push air over the heat sink. Arctic Silver 5 is the thermal grease of choice.
Did you have any hardware problems when doing this?
None at all. Pure plug and play operation. Just make sure your PSU is up to spec with nVidia’s recommendations.
What was the cost?
Cost is a little hard to judge as the SLI setup was done during a ground-up system build. Cost for two 6800GS’s is between $5-600 US.
How stable was your computer during game play?
The only stability issues I’m having are application specific and directly relate to overclocking the GPU’s. Currently EA’s BF2 is the only game that I’m experiencing problems with when the GPU’s are overclocked. According to several forums, this is a common issue. Other games such as NC Soft’s City of Heroes and Sony Online Entertainment’s EQ2 run without issue when the GPU’s are overclocked.
Was there a noticeable speed difference in your computer after the project was done?
Absolutely. However, it is difficult to judge where the increase came from as all important system specs were upgraded on this current machine. Below I’ve provided some screen shots of recent bench-marks:

Single 6800GS at Stock settings. CPU overclocked as above. 1.5GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 RAM

Single 6800GS at 496MHz core, 1.14GHz memory clock. CPU unchanged. RAM Unchanged.

6800GS in SLI. Stock core and memory. CPU unchanged. RAM unchanged.
